CarMD review

I was selected to participate in a BzzAgent campaign for CarMD at a highly discounted price. I was skeptical, but we have had a warning light on in the vehicle for the past year, but the vehicle has run perfectly. I thought we could use this to try to see what was wrong without the cost of the shop.

What’s the first thing I did when my CarMD arrived?  Hooked it up to my vehicle, of course!  And surprise, surprise what did I learn?  Well, first I found that it was super easy to connect…of course some might comment that that goes without saying.  After following the simple instructions for connecting to my vehicle, I installed the software. Again, this was super easy to do. Once I hooked up the device to my computer via the USB cord included, I found that this little gadget automatically registered the vehicle’s VIN and proceeded to tell my exactly why the check engine light has been on for the past year plus despite never even running badly (thankfully, not a big deal and very easy to replace).

To top it all off, it even told me approximately how much the repair should cost, both in terms of parts and labor, so I will know if a mechanic’s estimate is a good one or not.  All in all, this has to be the most useful automotive accessory ever devised. It uses terminology that even someone with little or no car knowledge (ME!) can understand. We’ll be taking the car in soon to have the inexpensive part fixed and know exactly what to expect. Very comforting.

I only have one negative comment concerning the CarMD and that has to do with the case that comes with it.  It comes with a small form fitting nylon bag that ordinarily would be sufficient.  However, mine also came with an extension cable which seems to be an excellent idea but does not fit in the bag.  So either I get something different to keep them in or risk losing the cable because I can’t keep them together.  I must admit, there are far worse predicaments.

Right now, CarMD is offering this unit at a discounted price. Go to http://carmd.com/bzz for a $30 discount. It is well worth the cost.
